1, processing principle
     Grinding: Cutting the surface of the workpiece using a large number of abrasive particles on a high-speed rotating abrasive tool (such as a grinding wheel). Each abrasive particle is like a tiny cutting tool, which contacts the workpiece at a very high linear speed and removes the workpiece material through the cutting, scoring and sliding of the abrasive particle. The grinding process generates a lot of heat and requires the use of coolant for cooling.
     Milling: Cutting the workpiece by means of the cutting edge on the rotating milling cutter. The rotary motion of the milling cutter and the linear or curved feed motion of the workpiece are combined to make the cutting edge continuously cut into and cut out the workpiece material, so as to realize the processing of the workpiece. The milling process also generates heat, but it is less than grinding and can generally be cooled by air cooling or a small amount of coolant.
2, processing accuracy
    Grinding: Usually high machining accuracy can be achieved. The dimensional accuracy can reach IT5-IT7 level, and the surface roughness can be as low as Ra0.1-Ra0.8 microns or even smaller. Grinding can achieve very fine processing, suitable for parts with high precision requirements, such as precision bearings, optical components, etc.
    Milling: Machining accuracy is lower than grinding. The dimensional accuracy is generally IT8-IT11, and the surface roughness is about Ra1.6-Ra6.3 microns. Milling is suitable for parts processing with general accuracy requirements, such as mechanical structures, molds, etc.
3, processing materials
    Grinding: can process a variety of hardness materials, including high hardness hardened steel, carbide, etc., can also process softer materials such as aluminum, copper, etc. Grinding is an effective machining method for some difficult materials.
     Milling: It is mainly suitable for processing metal materials with moderate hardness, and it is difficult to process high hardness materials. Milling can also process some non-metallic materials, but the processing effect and scope of application are relatively limited.
4, processing shape
    Grinding: mainly used for processing plane, cylindrical surface, conical surface, inner hole and other shapes. For the processing of complex shapes, special shaped grinding wheels or multi-axis linkage grinding equipment are required. Grinding can achieve high-precision shape processing, such as high-precision spherical surface, aspherical surface and so on.
